Avoid the “summer slip” while having the best summer ever at Camp Churchill!
Sign Me Up!
Daily Orton Gillingham-based literacy instruction and innovative STEAM activities combine with camp classics like tie-dying and capture the flag for a summer that will nurture every part of your camper.
Students spend all year working hard—academics, routines, and learning are the focus at school—but when school lets out, the dreaded “summer slip” begins. If your student would benefit from structure and support this summer, you’ve found the right place!
At Churchill, By Churchill
Camp is hosted on Churchill's campus, which helps support campers who benefit from a classroom-based routine. Staff includes Churchill educators (experts in their field), Churchill Upper School students, and alumni.
What Does This Mean?
This means that every single counselor your camper encounters knows what it means to have a language-based learning disability, ADHD, or executive functioning issues. You’ve found the place that understands your camper and their needs!
Tell Me About Literacy at Camp!
Our campers have at least one hour of literacy support per day. And it’s not just reading—it’s small-group Orton Gillingham instruction. Your camper will be in a small group of 6 to 8 students who have a similar reading level, benefiting from multi-sensory instruction that’s widely regarded as the gold standard for students with language-based learning disabilities. For additional details, check out the FAQ section below.
Tell Me About STEAM at Camp!
Whether it’s coding, cubelets, greenscreen videos, or fort construction, we bring the fun of STEAM into each day of camp! Campers work every day in Churchill’s world-class Makerspace, with access to building materials of all types.
Make a Splash!
Camp Churchill takes our whole group swimming twice a week. With certified lifeguards on staff and a 1:1 supervision protocol for non-swimmers, your student is sure to have a blast no matter their swim level.

Students at Camp Churchill participate in at least one literacy session per day. The focus of these sessions is on decoding, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and writing. They also target specific skills throughout the weeks of camp, such as inference, summarizing, and literary elements.
Due to the range of ages and learning needs of each group, the teachers provide direct instruction in smaller groups and whole-class instruction, typically rooted in activity. When in small groups for direct instruction, the teachers use the Wilson Rewards and Fundations program elements to build decoding and comprehension skills.
Since this is a summer camp setting and not an academic day program, our literacy sessions aim to prevent summer regression while ensuring opportunities for ongoing skill building. The teachers will not conduct diagnostic progress monitoring.
Students are grouped by age as well as literacy level. Age bands tend to fall into grades K-2, 2-4, and 4-6.
